Thinking back to move forward: channeling the spirit of independence to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals
"Namibia’s independence remains an exemplary triumph for African liberation and international solidarity. Namibia’s story reminds us of that sustainable peace and freedom is hard won through dialogue and diplomacy. The United Nations is proud to have played a part in this historic journey."
Sen Pang, UN Namibia Resident Coordinator
32 years ago, Namibia achieved its independence, ushering in an era of peace and equality. We celebrate those who made great sacrifices so that we can enjoy the rights and freedoms we have today. As we reflect on this historic accomplishment and the UN’s role in it, it is important that we look to the future.
On this occasion, UN Resident Coordinator, Sen Pang, remarked that "Today we still face challenges in ensuring the empowerment and prosperity of all citizens. So let the values of Namibia’s independence struggle live on, and let us channel that resilient Namibian spirit into realising the Sustainable Development Goals in this country."
