Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit in September is 2023's Centerpiece Moment
Most organisations undergo constant changes to match changing development needs and evolving market trends. The 2023 Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) called for an annual engagement with Ms. Amina Mohammed, United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General and Resident Coordinators across Africa.
Resident Coordinators need to evolve constantly to take the organisation they served on a path to success. The events hosted in Niamey – Niger during the 1st week of March this year served as a goldmine of opportunities to review country’s progress on the implementation SDG 6, 7, 9, 11 and 17.
Strengthening partnerships is at the heart of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). And in Namibia the UN’s work with the government proves extremely beneficial in the context of the United Nations Partnership Framework (UNPAF) 2019-2023. Significant challenges remain but to ensure no one is left behind, the SDGs can only be realized with the strong commitment of cooperation and partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society.
Our achievements of the 2030 agenda should offer vital data, impact on society and information to build high-performing, futuristic organization. The DSG, challenged and inspired Resident Coordinators to take a deep dive into this accelerating momentum of the SDGs at this halfway point to 2030.
Ms. Hopolang Phororo, UN Resident Coordinator to Namibia, noted ‘during our engagement today, Ms. Mohammed reminds us to look at development through an urgency lense... the SDG Summit is a moment of reflection to take stock on how the indices have moved to bring transformation.’
The SDG Summit in September is 2023's centerpiece moment. Ms. Amina Mohammed urges Resident Coordinators in Africa to engage with government partners, as they are asked to show up with clear benchmarks to tackle poverty, exclusion, and advance gender equality and human rights.
