World Children’s Day (WCD) is commemorated globally on 20 November each year and marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It is global day of action by children, for children.
This year, WCD is taking place during one of the most unique and challenging moments in the world and in Namibia. The coronavirus pandemic has laid bare the deep inequalities in our societies, millions of children are missing out on basic healthcare, cut off from education, and left without protection.

About the event
World Children’s Day will be celebrated under the theme “Kids Take Over” as part of the global “Reimagine” campaign which calls on partners, governments, and all UNICEF supporters to build a better post-pandemic world. The programme for the day will be directed by children and young people, which includes at-risk, out of school and street-connected children in Gobabis. The aim is to engage children and young people to speak out on issues that matter to them, to reclaim their voices and demand to be counted as they reimagine a future of hope with opportunities. The highlight of the programme will be the creative arts and crafts that the children and young people will be showcasing to share their vision of the world they want to build after COVID-19.
