On 8 March 2022, under the theme of “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, we celebrate International Women’s Day!
This year’s theme centres women’s role and achievements in climate justice and advocacy for a fair and inclusive future. It also draws attention to the social and economic effects that climate change and climate disaster have on girls and women. In her address at the Republic of Namibia's official Women's Day commemoration in Gobabis, Omaheke region, UN Namibia representative Sheila Roseau, on behalf of UN Resident Coordinator Sen Pang, urged governments and partners to “support adaptation responses to climate change and put women and girls at the centre of these efforts”.

Achieving gender equality is critical to Namibia’s sustainable development agenda, especially as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, as we celebrate, let's reflect on the important contributions women and girls have made in advocating for human rights and a healthy planet. Let this day re-energise our collective efforts to elevate female voices and realise our “sustainable tomorrow”.
