Lagos, Nigeria - February 3, 2025 - The UN SDG Book Club African Chapter, in collaboration with its Ambassador Schools Program, is thrilled to announce a global read-a-thon celebration to mark World Read Aloud Day on February 5, 2025
The Power of Reading Aloud
World Read Aloud Day, observed annually on February 5th, emphasizes the significance of reading aloud and sharing stories to foster literacy, empathy, and community building. This day holds particular importance in Africa, where access to reading materials can be limited, and literacy rates vary greatly across the continent.
Empowering African Children
By celebrating World Read Aloud Day, the UN SDG Book Club African Chapter aims to inspire a love for reading and storytelling centered around sustainability concerns among African children. Reading aloud has the power to bridge cultural divides, preserve heritage, and foster a sense of shared humanity.

Our mission is to promote literacy, foster a love for reading, and inspire action towards achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among African children ages 6-12. We also showcase Special Collections of selected books addressing sustainability themes for young adults and adults.
