UNFPA donates dignity kits to Ministry of Health and Social Services

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) today handed over reproductive health and dignity kits valued at N$4 million to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

Handing over the donation, UNFPA’s Namibia Country Representative Dennia Gayle said the support was provided through the ‘Ensuring Life-saving GBV Assistance to Women and Girls’ project. The donated dignity kits comprise of male condoms, rape-treatment kits, management of miscarriages and complications from abortions kits as well as oral and injectable contraception kits, amongst others. She further said the dignity kits should benefit vulnerable pregnant and lactating women, HIV teen clubs and adolescent girls in schools.

Receiving the donation, Health and Social Services Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula said this support was in line with the Ministry’s strategic interventions for post-violence care.

“We really thank the UN and UNFPA in particular, for this generous donation. It would surely go a long way in addressing women's reproductive health, particularly access to emergency reproductive health medical services,” he said.

Shangula further urged the Central Medical Store and the Primary Healthcare Services Directorate within the ministry to coordinate the distribution of the donated items effectively.
