The event is co-hosted by the UNDP Accelerator Lab Namibia in collaboration with the Directorate Public Service Innovation and Reform; Directorate Human Resource Planning and Development and Human Resources Benefits and Industrial Relations (DBIR) at the Office of the Prime Minister.

About the event
The United Nations (UN) declared the 23 June International Public Service Day. The day is dedicated to the contribution of public service workers to our communities. At the same time, Africa Public Service Day (APSD) is an event entrenched in the calendar of the African Union (AU). It originates from the conference of African Ministers for Public or Civil Service held in Tangier, Morocco in 1994. It was agreed at this conference that the 23rd of June should be celebrated annually as Africa Public Service Day to recognise the value and virtue of service and public servants to the community. It is also a platform to reflect and share practical recommendations on improved ethical, and innovative service delivery, premised on the African Charter for the Values and Principles for Public Administration nationally and across the continent.
THEME: “Enhancing the Resilience of the African Public Administration to support and facilitate the realization of Africa’s nutritional needs during and post COVID-19 Pandemic.”
The event is scheduled to take place in Otjiwarongo over a three-day period as follows:
21 & 22 June 2022: Three parallel sessions over the two days which will consist of the following:
Session 1: A Policy Lab for Public Sector Innovation Champions led by Geraldine Itana, Head of Exploration and Licius Mbaindjikua, OPM
Session 2: Journey mapping and experimenting with the digital prototype for the Declaration of Interests and Outside Work outside the Public Service led by Omagano Kankondi, Head of Solutions Mapping and Thekla Jaarman, OPM
Session 3: Public Sector Innovation Mini-Bootcamp for Learning and Development Officers, led by Yrika Maritz, Head of Experimentation and Victor Kaulinge, OPM
23 June 2022: Commemoration of International Public Service Day and Africa Public Service Day at the Otjozondjupa Stadium (across multiple locations enabled online connection to leverage digitalization and include public servants across various duty stations).
